Loved the new draft! Thanks for adding that great Weasley joke. Just one thing — like I had mentioned earlier, I really think it might flow a bit better if Harry is killed at the end. I really love what you’ve got there with the almost-dying-and-then-coming-back bit, but what if he almost dies and then does die? You know — just cause he’s a bit of a twat. I hope your daughter’s concert went well!

Hey Chris, concert was great, thanks for asking! I really appreciate your feedback on the new draft. I’m trying to cut it down to 800 pages right now, so any suggestions on what could be taken out would be really helpful. I’m open to discussing alternatives to the ending, but I’d really like to keep Harry alive if at all possible. Twat or not, he is the hero of the series, after all. How was your mother’s hip replacement by the way?

Thank you for asking– mom is still on bed rest but should be walking next week! Don’t worry about the length, we can always make the font smaller. I totally get that Harry’s the hero — love that part, it really resonates with people. I think maybe he could die but kill voldemort as he goes down, you know, so he saves the wizarding world. Still a hero, right? And this way, you won’t have to write another book — not that I don’t love the 7 you have so far! Plus, the annoying boy-wizard will finally get put in his place.

I really, really, really appreciate your thoughts on how Harry could die. Yes, it does seem nice to have a conclusive ending, I think it’s just a bit better if he carries on living, you know? Voldemort will be dead, so the series can end. It’s a children’s book — might be best not to kill off the good guy, it sends the wrong message.

Yes, and I LOVE that it’s a children’s book! Did I tell you my daughter has a poster of Daniel Radcliffe above her bed? She’s in love! We should definitely keep the “children-y” aspects of it — like, the fact that the protagonists are children and the simple prose — but I don’t see what’s wrong with throwing in a little darkness. You already killed Dumbledore and Sirius and Cedric — why not one more? Especially the most annoying character in the history of children’s literature. The literal worst — you know, usually orphans are unentitled. Have you ever read Oliver Twist? Anyway, some death could be good. It’ll set it apart from lighter series. Your work is so great (main character aside), I’d hate for it to get mixed up with Ramona Quimby or something like that. PS I saw your Instagram post — I can’t believe your little girl is already applying to college!

Oh, time flies! I feel like yesterday she was just a baby and the 4th book was coming out! Speaking of the 4th book — I’m not sure if you read it that closely — no worries if not, I know it’s a tad long — but Cedric really wasn’t that big of a character. He was just in that one book. Harry’s a bit more central to the series. I mean, it is named after him. Hope your son is enjoying the flute!

Yes, and i LOVE LOVE LOVE that Harry’s so central to the series. It’s like — what do you think when you think Harry Potter? You think about Harry! Harry Potter! It’s right there in the title! And that’s key. The very irritating over-confident should-have-died-many-times titular Harry Potter. But the series is over now so maybe it could be just like a fun little twist at the end if voldemort offed him with a killing spell. Or — how bout this — maybe Hermione has to do it for the sake of the wizarding world? A girl killer, so hot right now. Very hunger games but with a wizard spin.

Hey! So sorry for the delay. I’ve been on vacation, plus the movies — crazy times! Did you get the letter from the publisher? I have loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved — REDACTED — loved loved loved loved loved working with you the past few years, but just for this last book I’m going to switch direction a bit just since you seemed so overworked! All the best to you — tell your kids I send my love! I’ll see if I can get Sally on set to meet Daniel, he’s a lovely boy.

I’m leaking the ending. The very predictable ending.
